As Careers Officer, Lou’s role is to develop the careers strategy and to help raise the profile of agriculture by promoting the diverse range of opportunities in the industry.
In her student days studying Graphic Design, Lou spent five years living and working on a mixed farm in Derbyshire. Her main role was as a shepherd to a flock of 300 breeding mules but she also delivered educational workshops to school groups.
After graduating, she went on to enjoy a variety of successful roles in design, marketing and recruitment, including founding and directing a busy recruitment agency in Nottingham.
But a love of farm life eventually drew Lou back to agriculture and, in 2017, she decided to make the leap by embarking on an Extended Diploma in Agriculture at Nottingham Trent University.
During her studies, Lou completed several work placements with farm, genetics and feed businesses, learning about many different aspects of the industry. After graduating from Nottingham Trent with Distinction, she took up the role of Business and Marketing Consultant with a dairy company, where her activities included supporting the establishment of a new dairy vending enterprise selling direct through retail outlets
Lou then moved on to the role of Project Manager with AHDB, where she supported TIAH’s early development. This has led to her becoming a permanent member of the TIAH team.
During her spare time, Lou enjoys spending time outdoors in the countryside, in the garden or golf course. She also enjoys cooking and sings in an 80-strong all female show chorus and has even competed at international level in Las Vegas.
