Farming business models

Farming business models

Discover more about the range of business models available to farming and growing operations and how suitable they are for different business types by watching our full webinar.
It can be important to discuss the risks to the business before making any decision on which model to use for which enterprise.

How to get started

It can be tempting to carry on managing the business with the same system that's been in place for years. But there are real benefits to thinking how your operation has changed and thinking more about how it might adapt in the future.

Both of these factors can help you decide which business model might be right for you and your business.

Dairy farmer Claire Eastham provided insight from her own experiences during our webinar on farming business models.

About the webinar contributor: Claire Eastham

Claire Eastham farms with her husband Martyn in Dorset, together they run a 140-head spring calving herd on a Dorset County Council farm.

The couple started their route into agriculture via share farming in 2015 before successfully gaining a council tenancy in 2017.

Claire also works off-farm to help other farmers access grant schemes including the Sustainable Farming Incentive and she facilitates a local farmer cluster group.

This time helps give Claire an all-rounded view of the industry – the challenges faced and what the future might look like. The collaborative approach of the cluster group is of real interest and something she envisages more of in the future of UK agriculture.
