Why it's important to develop your skills

Farming is changing like never before. New technology, changing market trends and shifting regulations mean learning is crucial to stay up to date.

Whether it's soil or crop health, finance, health and safety, animal health and welfare or biosecurity, improving your knowledge can help you make smarter decisions on-farm and identify new opportunities to develop.

And our online learning is designed to help you reduce waste, save money, manage your team better and increase profits.

Find out how the Capability Framework can help you develop your knowledge and skills.

The TIAH Capability Framework

The TIAH Capability Framework shows you what skills, behaviours and knowledge are needed for your job, helps you see what you’re already good at, and identifies areas where you can grow, so you can feel more confident, do your job well, and take the next step in your farming career.

Managers can use this framework to outline their requirements from new staff, while employees can use it to plan their skills development so they're ready to make the next step in their careers.
CPD can help you develop your career.

Why CPD should matter to you

We're all busy, so fitting in training can be difficult - but CPD works best when the learning is simple and regular. Online training, workshops and short courses are all great tools to help you upskill.

Learning new things can give you new ideas, boost your confidence and help you enjoy your work more. Importantly, it can also help you prepare for the future, deal with market changes or new rules and regulations.
CPD can help you develop your career.
Build your learning record so you can quickly evidence your professionalism to auditors or potential employers.

How does TIAH help with CPD?

Members can access their Learning record - helping them track all their training, including any CPD done outside of the Learning Hub. With all learning recorded in one place, members can share their record with their manager, use it to plan their next steps or when applying for a new job.

We recommend aiming for 40 CPD points a year - that’s about 20 hours, but it's also common for employers and staff to agree targets together.

How will my learning be recognised?

You can achieve CPD points by using the Learning Hub and you'll also earn certificates on successful completion of TIAH Essential Skills courses, too. You can also record your external learning and CPD.

If you're a member of BASIS you can also claim BASIS CPD points through some of the Essential Skills learning.

Similarly, members of the Register of Sheep Advisers can receive RoSA points by completing TIAH Essential Skills: animal health and welfare (for farm workers).
