Five farming jobs you’ve probably never heard of

Are you curious about what jobs are available in farming and growing? Look no further because today, we will explore five exciting and unique farming jobs that might pique your interest!
Breeding technician
As a breeding technician, also known as artificial insemination (AI) technician, you’ll be responsible for helping animals, like cows, reproduce. But instead of letting them do it on their own, you’ll use specialised tools and techniques to help them along.
It may sound strange, but it’s a very important job that helps farmers maintain and improve their herds.
Hoof trimmer
As a hoof trimmer, you’ll work with cows by trimming their hooves. If a cow’s hooves get too long, it can be painful and make it hard for them to walk, which can be bad for their health. The hoof trimmer will gently lift the cow’s foot and use a tool called a hoof knife to carefully trim away any overgrown or damaged parts of the hoof. This helps the cow feel more comfortable and can prevent further problems.
Farmers love and care for their cows, and the hoof trimmer helps keep the cows healthy and comfortable; healthy cows are happy cows!

Grain sampler
If you enjoy working independently and methodically, then being a grain sampler might be the job for you. In this role, you’ll be responsible for collecting samples of different types of grains, like wheat, corn, and soybeans. You'll take these samples to a lab where they can test the quality of the grain, like how much moisture it has, how many impurities are in it, and how much protein it contains.
This information helps farmers make decisions about things, such as when to harvest their crops and how much they’re worth.
Milk recorder
As a milk recorder, you’ll be responsible for collecting and analysing milk samples to ensure its high quality and safe for human consumption. You’ll also keep track of things like milk production and health records for the cows.
By tracking this information, farmers can decide which cows to keep for breeding and which ones to sell. They can also identify any health issues or other problems affecting a cow’s milk production so they can address them quickly. It’s a valuable tool for dairy farmers to help them manage their herds more efficiently and produce high-quality milk.
Hydroponic farmer
If you’re interested in farming but don’t want to work with animals or live in a town or city, being a hydroponic farmer might be the job for you. Hydroponic farming involves growing plants without soil using nutrient-rich water instead. This job requires a lot of knowledge about plant biology and chemistry, and it’s a great way to be involved in the food industry without having to work with animals.
This way of growing plants is cool because it uses less water than traditional farming, and it can be done indoors or outdoors, so you can grow plants all year round! Plus, you don’t have to worry about weeds, pests, or other things that can hurt your plants when they’re growing in soil.

These are just five examples of the many exciting and rewarding jobs available in farming. Whether you’re interested in animals or plants or love the idea of working outside, there’s sure to be a farming or growing job perfect for you. So why not consider a career in agriculture or horticulture? You might just discover your dream job!
