In this role, she has moved a face-to-face examination online (rapidly, during the pandemic), redesigned and re-platformed the college’s suite of e-learning modules, managed all aspects of the implementation of nine curricula, led the review of the college’s formative assessments, managed the procurement of an e-portfolio platform and most recently been solely responsible for the development and delivery of a National Autism Training Programme for Psychiatrists, sponsored by NHS England.

In prior roles, she has helped eating disorder charity Beat procure a learning management system and convert its face-to-face training to mobile learning, managed a commercial learning design team for Omniplex, and been self-employed as a learning designer.

Experience with membership organisations

For more than 20 years, she has worked specifically with membership organisations, delivering distance learning courses and publishing course books for the Chartered Insurance Institute, developing myriad accounting, tax and investment digital learning courses, quizzes and formal assessments leading to professional qualifications while working for Kaplan, a global education provider.

Karen holds a PGCert in secondary teaching. As a volunteer, she set up and chaired the Tandridge Learning Trust multi-academy trust of five schools, moving schools towards improved outcomes for their children.

She relocated to Staffordshire two years ago and is building a new community while getting to grips with an allotment and an overgrown garden. When not doing that, she is on the beach in Wales with a large, hairy dog.
