They also have significant involvement with Countryside Stewardship and have diversified into holiday lets and commercial property lettings.

Since returning from Reading University in 2013 to help manage the farm, Owen has introduced 60 acres of vineyard and a machine harvester as another enterprise to this already diverse business, as part of their plan to ‘future-proof’ their farming.

Extending towards a total of 4,000 acres under management, Owen and Tim are heavily involved with environmental schemes across the whole farm. With a reliance on labour for the vineyard enterprise and 10 employees on the farm, skills and training is a key concern for Owen in a post-Brexit world.

Owen was involved with the NFU Next Generation Forum, where his interest in the work of TIAH was fostered. He hopes that he can contribute with a ‘boots on the ground’ perspective. Owen wants to be able to give something back to the industry and help ensure that it has the best chance of being a diverse and attractive career for all.

When away from work, Owen has a young family to enjoy and is a keen village cricketer. He also enjoys rugby and golf.
