Show your dedication to the industry by registering your expertise and helping to develop the future of skills in farming and growing.

By registering with TIAH as an expert in your industry, you can have your say on the future development of courses and apprenticeships in agriculture and horticulture.

Ofqual (the External Quality Assurance Organisation) will engage registered experts to support them in:

  • Ensuring end-point assessments are consistent and they reliably test the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the assessment plan
  • Identifying risk across and within apprenticeship standards and emerging trends over time
  • Maintaining delivery standards across end-point assessment organisations (EPAO)
  • Enabling more targeted and efficient use of regulatory tools
  • Experts work under the supervision of the External Quality Assurance Organisation and their reviews and findings will be used in Ofqal’s final findings reports

How do experts help Ofqual assess the quality of courses and apprenticeships?

If called upon, you would receive the following from Ofqual:

  • Apprenticeship Standard
  • Assessment Plan
  • EPAO materials
  • Reviewer Template

You then carry out an independent review, usually within two weeks of receiving the documents.

What might an independent review consist of?

As an expert called upon by Ofqal, you could visit EPAO sites to gather intelligence and engage directly with them as they undertake their operations and deliver end-point assessments.

You may be required to conduct interviews, meetings and carry out observations of EPAO activity, including live assessments. You will be supported, guided and accompanied by Ofqual staff throughout these engagements.

You will review the EPAO’s materials to ensure they cover what's outlined in the assessment plan and that they enable assessors to make accurate and consistent judgements.

With this review completed, you will share your findings with Ofqual who may produce a report and/or provide targeted advice or intelligence to EPAOs as required. Your expert views will be used to support this activity.

Your intelligence could also be used to support EPAO forums, sharing best practice, and agreeing common approaches, as well as supporting recognition and technical evaluation.

You may be invited to join a virtual panel to discuss the review or to give a professional opinion on Ofqual’s findings.
