TIAH showcases agriculture and horticulture at Cambridge University

Our Careers Manager, Ruthie Peterson, and Janet Swadling, Chief Executive at the time, attended the Green Careers Festival at Cambridge University. Here are Ruthie's thoughts on the event, organised in collaboration with Cambridge Zero.
At the festival, students could explore career paths and job opportunities to inspire them to pursue a career that has a direct, positive impact on the planet.
More than 20 stalls were there from a diverse range of organisations. These included BeZero Carbon, the Environment Agency, ERM, Forest Research, the Woodland Trust, and TIAH! These stalls provided discussions and resources to help individuals launch their green careers.
Strong appreciation for the work of farmers and growers
We met 40 motivated and well-informed students from the chemistry, engineering, and ethics disciplines. They had a deep admiration for farming and growing and good knowledge of the challenges these industries face. Despite this, they were still uncertain of the sector's graduate roles.
We recommended they keep an eye on the industries in the media and look to our platform for detailed breakdowns of roles and capabilities. We also suggested the students consider how their skills may be transferable to our sectors, as their fresh and unrestricted thinking is invaluable!
Several students left their contact details with me, and I'll be sharing details of green jobs hubs, case studies, and the names of some key players in the agri-tech sector.
We left the festival with a sense of optimism and enthusiasm. We were impressed with the student’s eagerness to learn more and their keenness to make an impact.
As a result of the festival, we've seen a need for more resources and guidance to help young people pursue a career in farming and growing. We've already begun to develop a range of resources to help students address the opportunities in our sectors.
