Ruthie Peterson
Careers Manager
Her aim is to convince a wide variety of people to make the land-based industries their sector of choice for employment and to help them build meaningful training records for progression in their chosen direction through the industry.
After graduating with a degree in Biological Sciences (Hons in Immunology) from the University of Edinburgh, Ruthie’s first role outside university was that of Police Constable in Lothian and Borders Police. This challenging and diverse role confirmed Ruthie’s belief that opportunities, training and mentoring need to be a lifelong offering for all.
Most recently Ruthie has worked as a teacher in both the state and private sectors. During this phase of her career, she's held roles such as teacher of Environmental and Agricultural Sciences, teacher of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) for sixth form students and Head of Scholars.
After 17 years in teaching, Ruthie decided to push her career in a new direction and, having a life-long love of agriculture and the environment, she was drawn to TIAH’s cause.
When not working, Ruthie enjoys spending time with her family and pets. She's a sports enthusiast, participating in Park Runs, watching live professional sports and standing on endless pitches cheering on her children. She also loves attending the theatre and travelling the UK, especially Scotland and North Wales, where she's keen to get her children up their first mountain soon!
