The Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture (TIAH) today announced that Judith Batchelar OBE will be taking on the role of Interim Chair of the Board, as David Fursdon steps down after four years of dedicated service as Chair.

Judith Batchelar OBE, a respected figure in the food and agriculture sector, will stay in post while the search for a permanent successor is underway.

David Fursdon has played a pivotal role in establishing TIAH as the home for skills, careers and professionalism in UK agriculture and horticulture. Under his leadership, TIAH has made significant strides in developing professional membership and fostering collaboration between key stakeholders.

Reflecting on his time at TIAH, David Fursdon said: "It has been an honour to serve as TIAH's Chair during its formative years. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved and I am confident that TIAH will continue to play a crucial role in championing farmers’ and growers’ lifelong learning."

I am honoured to take on this interim role at such a critical time for UK agriculture. TIAH's work in highlighting professionalism in the industry and supporting skills development has never been more important.

Experience and expertise aligning with TIAH's mission

Judith Batchelar OBE brings a wealth of experience to her new role as Interim Chair. With 40 years in the food and drink industry, including her tenure as Sainsbury's Brand Director and her current positions as Deputy Chair of the Environment Agency and Commissioner on the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, Judith's expertise aligns perfectly with TIAH's mission.

On her appointment, Judith stated: "I am honoured to take on this interim role at such a critical time for UK agriculture. TIAH's work in highlighting professionalism in the industry and supporting skills development has never been more important. I look forward to building on David's excellent work and ensuring a smooth transition to the next permanent Chair."

Judith's background in driving innovation, sustainability and public affairs in the food sector positions her ideally to guide TIAH through its next phase of development. Her experience in bridging the gap between agriculture, retail and environmental concerns will be invaluable in furthering TIAH's goals.
