Safety

Safety

Safety is about recognising your responsibility to protect people from injury or harm. This includes yourself, fellow workers or employees, and anyone visiting your farm.

Safety is very important. By protecting yourself and other workers, you cut down on absences. This means less disruption and saves your business money. Protecting visitors means you can avoid legal action, which can prove costly.

Having a good reputation for safety also means more people will want to come to work for you and stay part of the business.

Workers get more work done in workplaces committed to health and safety. Read what the HSE says about this.

Promoting safety

All TIAH members are asked to recognise their paramount responsibility to protect themselves, their fellow workers or employees, and anyone visiting their farms from injury or harm.

This behaviour includes:

  • Identifying health and safety risks
  • Adopting safe working practices and planning work to avoid or minimise risk
  • Not carrying out tasks or asking others to carry out tasks if they're unsafe or if you or other workers don't have the proper training or equipment
  • Encouraging workers and employees to speak up about any health and safety risks
